Our Swing Bed Unit bridges the gap between hospital care and home, providing high-quality, compassionate services in a comfortable, supportive environment.
A swing bed allows a hospital room to “swing” from acute inpatient care to skilled nursing care. This means patients who no longer need hospital-level treatment - but still require daily medical or therapy services can remain at SWARMC for continued recovery.
Rather than transferring far from home, patients receive skilled care from the same hospital team they already know and trust.
What is a Swing Bed?
Our Swing Bed program currently offers a range of skilled services designed to support recovery, independence, and safety:
Physical Therapy – Focused on strength, mobility, balance, and safe movement
IV Therapy – Ongoing medication and fluid management as prescribed
Wound Care – Advanced wound monitoring and treatment
Pain Management – Individualized care to support comfort and healing
Respiratory Care – Support for breathing treatments and respiratory needs
Additional services, including Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy, are planned for the near future as we continue to expand care options for our patients.

Are recovering from surgery, illness, or injury
Need therapy or skilled nursing before returning home
Require daily medical monitoring or treatments
Would benefit from short-term rehabilitation in a hospital setting
Our care team works closely with patients, families, and providers to determine if Swing Bed services are the right next step.
Who Can Benefit From a Swing Bed?
SWARMC’s Swing Bed Program is covered exclusively under Medicare for patients who meet Medicare’s skilled nursing criteria.
Our team assists patients and families with:
Verifying Medicare eligibility
Coordinating physician orders and discharge planning
Ensuring all Medicare requirements are met for Swing Bed admission
